Kickerillo-Mischer Preserve

Kickerillo-Mischer Preserve Houston TX is one of Harris County’s newest parks. This 80-acre property features Marshall Lake, a staff building, paved roads, three fishing piers, 1.7 miles of paved trails, several unpaved natural areas, a canoe launch, and restroom facilities. Read this first!

This is a great park for walking the dogs, running, birdwatching, and even drone flying! It is also a wonderful place to picnic.

1. Marshall Lake

The Kickerillo-Mischer Preserve features Marshall Lake and 1.7 miles of paved trails. The park also has a staff building, fishing piers, unpaved natural areas, a canoe launch, and a covered picnic area. The park is open to pedestrians and pets on leash. Educational programming and tailored activities for scout groups, field trip tours, and senior adult groups are offered regularly.

Located at 20215 Chasewood Park Drive, the Kickerillo-Mischer Preserve opened Saturday to the public. It is bordered by The Vintage community to the north and Cypress Creek Greenway to the south. The main entrance is off Chasewood Park Drive immediately east of SH249. Parking is limited and free.

2. Trails

The park features 1.7 miles of paved trails and also includes three fishing piers, unpaved natural areas, a canoe launch, a covered picnic area, and fire rings (for group and camping activities). Educational programming and tailored special events for groups are offered.

The trails in Kickerillo-Mischer Preserve are a great place to walk run or bike. The park is not very crowded and offers a nice relaxing way to spend the day.

Harris County Precinct 4 parks director Dennis Johnston said future phases of the trail will include two under crossings that will link it with the existing paved trail at the 100-acre Wood Preserve across Highway 249, then connect to the pond behind The Vintage development next door to the new SpringHill Suites hotel and over to the parking lot for the park’s offices on Cypresswood Drive on the south side and eventually west to Faulkey Gully on the north side of Cypress Creek. 3. Natural Areas

The park has 1.7 miles of paved trails circling Marshall Lake, as well as fishing piers and a covered picnic area. Educational programming and tailored programming for groups are also offered.

The property was donated to Harris County Precinct 4 in 2009 by Kickerillo Companies and Mischer Investments, developers of the nearby community The Vintage. Prestonwood Forest Utility District has a building located on the site that houses staff offices, saving the county $2 million in construction costs, said Johnston.

The park is situated close to the forest Marshall Lake Island and CHI Saint Luke’s Health – The Vintage Hospital. Moreover, it is situated at Chasewood Park Drive, just east of Highway 249. The Vintage Mall is 1 1/2 miles southeast. The park is also surrounded by residential communities.

4. Camping

If you are looking for camping, this park has a large open area behind the restrooms that could be used for it. Whether a scout camp or a family camp, this park would be great for it.

The park is bordered on the north by The Vintage development, on the west by the SpringHill Suites hotel, and on the south by Cypress Creek. Harris County Precinct 4 parks director Dennis Johnston said that two under crossings will be constructed to create a concrete trail on the north side of Hwy 249 and over Cypress Creek in the south of the preserve.

Kickerillo Mischer Preserve Lake Loop is a 1.80-mile loop hike with a lake view located near Tomball, TX that features a river and is good for all skill levels. The trail offers a number of activity options and has a 4.5-star rating from Pacer users.

5. Restrooms

There are restrooms in Kickerillo-Mischer Preserve located in the back of the main building within the park. During the day, they are open on a first-come, first-serve basis. In the evening, they are closed and locked.

The parking lot for the preserve is on Chasewood Park Drive immediately east of SH249. There are also limited spaces at the park’s operations office on Cypresswood Drive.

Kickerillo-Mischer Preserve is located near CHI Saint Luke’s Health – The Vintage Hospital and Willowbrook Mall. Shop at Black Walnut Cafe and Whole Foods for groceries before heading out to explore wooded trails at Marshall Lake Island.
