TC Jester Park

TC Jester Park has the ultimate combination of amenities: an all-inclusive playground, disc golf course, jogging & biking trails, pool, and more. It is the perfect location to spend a day with the family.

The murders of Elizabeth Pena and Jennifer Ertman shook the community to its core. Memorial benches still stand in the park to honor the girls, and the case prompted changes in criminal justice. You can find information on all of these and more by clicking here.

The Park’s History

When the Timbergrove Manor neighborhood was first laid out after World War II, it sat in what was then pasture land and woods. When developers created this new community they wanted it to be a place where families could live comfortably and enjoy the great outdoors. They designed the homes to include modern amenities that were not yet available in other neighborhoods, such as central heat and air and concrete slabs under the houses. There was also a hook-up for a washing machine that many homeowners still use today.

The park’s namesake, Beauford Halbert Jester, was the 36th Governor of Texas from 1947 to 1949. He oversaw significant education reforms and increased funding for state hospitals and orphanages. Jester was also a member of the University of Texas Board of Regents and was responsible for establishing the university’s Jester Dormitory.

In 2018 a hike and bike trail that connects White Oak Bayou to the Houston Heights Hike and Bike Trail was completed through T.C. Jester Park and several other parks. This is a great way for Houstonians to explore the outdoors without driving.

Its Amenities

TC Jester Park offers a variety of recreational amenities for its visitors. There is a playground, disc golf course, swimming pool, and splash pad, dog park, and jogging and biking trails. The newest addition is the state-of-the-art playground that opened in March.

The TC Jester dog park is off-leash and has both large and small dog areas. However, all dogs must be tagged and licensed to enter the park. In addition, all owners must clean up after their pets and supervise them at all times.

Imagine living near the city’s best spots and surrounded by alluring green scenery. This is the life you can live when you live at a TC Jester apartment. Whether you want to explore the Heights Bike Trail, Memorial Park, The Galleria, or world-class medical services, this location will give you all that you need and more. This unique place is a must-see!

Its Wildlife

TC Jester Park is home to many species of wildlife, and its wetlands are a haven for birders. In addition, the park features playgrounds, picnic areas, and open green spaces perfect for recreational activities like frisbee or soccer.

It also has a number of bridges where bat colonies live. In fact, it is possible to see tens of thousands of Mexican free-tail bats flying over the bayou at dusk. The Houston Parks Board has installed bat houses in the area and continues to monitor these colony sites.

There is also a fenced dog park at the park, which opened in 2009. The park has both a large and small dog area and is off-leash. The park also has a pet wash, drinking fountain, shaded area with benches, and two dog runs. Owners must pick up after their dogs and supervise them at all times. The park does not allow aggressive behavior or dogs in heat.

Its Recreational Opportunities

If you like to bike, run, stroll, paddle, or simply explore nature, the Park is a must-visit. You’ll find shady green spaces for picnicking or playing frisbee with your family and friends, paved trails for jogging or biking, and a serene lake surrounded by wildlife and the Cypress Top historic site.

The Park also has a playground, fitness park, dog park, jogging trail, disc golf course, pool, and splash pad. The playground has a small area for toddlers and a bigger spot for big kids, with equipment that includes a teeter-totter, spring riders, swings, and slides.

There’s also a 1.08-acre dog park where you can take your leashed dogs for a frolicking visit with their fellow canines. The park has separate areas for large and small dogs, as well as benches, shade, and drinking fountains. The park’s dog park is South of the rest of the park’s facilities, which include a ball field, basketball pavilion, and other sports fields. Definitely worth checking out!
